Hopkins Emergency Response Teaching Unit
The Hopkins Emergency Response Teaching Unit (HERTU) offers training in CPR and certification as a First Responder each semester and over Intersession, following the American Red Cross curriculum for "CPR for the Professional Rescuer" and "Emergency Response". Students certified by the Red Cross as Emergency Response Instructors teach the courses.
The combined course is over 60 hours long and runs for the entire semester or throughout intersession. More information about the course is avaliable on the course syllabus.
Hopkins students and incoming freshmen interested in taking the Emergency Response course signup on the Course Interest List. Other questions can be directed to the HERTU Instructional Chair.
Graduates from the HERTU course are eligible to take a practical "challenge" test for membership into the Hopkins Emergency Response Unit. HERU members provide 24/7 EMS coverage on the Hopkins campus - more information is avaliable here.
Students who have already passed the HERTU course may apply for a position as a teaching assistant. (JHED login required)
